One of our favorite bands here at Don’t Stop Alternative for a few years now has been a band you might be familiar with. An alternative, indie rock band by the name of Weathers, who made their first breakthrough in 2016 with their hit single, ‘Happy Pills’, which now has over 245-million streams. Weathers has certainly been on the move lately with releasing new music that we’re beyond excited for. From ‘Your Girlfriend’, to ‘Antidote’, and of course their newest single which we’ll be talking about today, ‘Teeth’, that was released just recently. We’re big fans of this newest single, so let's talk about it!
Weathers first began teasing ‘Teeth’ at the beginning of September in the format of short-form videos with snippets of the new and upcoming song. The video was captioned with a single emoji teasing the title: the tooth emoji. This immediately got fans excited; Weathers has been releasing so much music recently and we were ready for more! Throughout the next few days, the LA-based band would release more snippets of the new single via their social media, with captions such as “I think I really like you” and “from my dreams”, teasing the new lyrics. Finally, on September 23rd, the alt-rock band announced that we could presave the new single. On October 2nd, ‘Teeth’ was released on all streaming platforms.
‘Teeth’ was a collaborative writing effort by lead singer and guitarist Cameron Boyer, guitarist Cameron Olsen, and Hiram Hernandez, and was produced by John Greenham, Hiram Hernandez, and by our very own Cameron Olsen. After listening to ‘Teeth’ for the first time, we agree that it couldn’t be more perfect for the Halloween season. We find the newest single from Weathers to have a “spooky” undertone to it. ‘Teeth’ describes how it feels to love someone who you feel might be out of your league or doesn’t notice you; I’m watching you, but you can’t see me // Wish I could be the one in your scene. It might almost feel like you can’t even “touch” them, you should probably just give up because you fell in love with someone you can never have; I think I better fall asleep because I fell in love // With someone I can never touch. You’re entranced by them and everything about them. The way they talk, their eyes; Those hazel eyes, the ones from my dreams. With the way they talk, they might as well just be talking to you; Somethin’ ‘bout the way you talk through your teeth // (I think I really like it) // Somethin’ ‘bout the way you say what you mean // Feels just like you’re talking to me. You’re desperate for this person, you’ll do almost anything just for them to love you; I’ll follow you until you love me. Weathers additionally shocked long-time fans by referencing one of their biggest singles, ‘C’est la vie’, which has over 52-million streams. With the song reference, they switch up the lyrics with using the word ‘sing’ rather than ‘talking’, implying that the love interest is singing the actual song themselves; Somethin’ ‘bout the way you sing c’est la vie // Feels just like you’re singing to me. With lyrics such as “I’ll follow you until you love me” and “I’m watching you, but you can’t see me”, we just feel combined with the instrumentals, it has a spooky, scary undertone to it. And believe us, we’re here for it and whatever else Weathers have up their sleeves.
