Everyone’s favorite emo icons are back with yet another surprise single from their album An Ending In Itself  that is set to release in just less than a month on June 12th. ‘Paralyzed’ by Sleeping With Sirens is by far their best arranged single teasing their 8th album that blew us away, and we hope it did for you too.

Beginning on March 16th of this year, Sleeping With Sirens began teasing their fanbase with some form of new content, beginning with a splurge of their Instagram and ridding their page of most of their posts. One of the only posts that remained was one with the simple date of 3.19.26. Fans were left in questioning, but knew that a new Sirens era was upon them; and they (and we) were certainly correct because by the time March 18th came around, fans were surprised with a post promoting Sleeping With Sirens’ new single ‘An Ending In Itself’ set to come out the day after.

The video both for the song and for its promotion is mysterious with a door signifying that the anticipated new album holds lore, lore that we’re looking forward to understanding more and more as videos continue to be released. The door has been opened, but still leaves fans in wonder of what the new scene that is revealed behind it means. ‘Forever/Always’ released just a month following ‘An Ending In Itself’ with an official album announcement that came along the way. But this past Friday the 22nd? The pop punk band surprised their fanbase with yet another single titled ‘Paralyzed’ that holds a melody and lyrics like no other.

Sleeping With Sirens never fail to keep their ability to make catchy yet deep songs that tell a story to the listener throughout each album, and ‘Paralyzed’ is no exception. The biggest factor that I found to be particularly remarkable was how well the chorus contrasts sound-wise in comparison to the verses. To go further into detail, the verses are rigid and contain lead vocalist Kellin Quinn’s signature screams that takes the listener through feelings of self-doubt and questioning your own worth while working under so much pressure. I feel the pain like a thorn in my side // Self defeat when I open my eyes, in particular truly conveys how it feels to be constantly judged and waking up with that self-doubt that can feel like a thorn in your side. Take off the mask and you’ll see the disguise // Standing up straight, but I’m barely alive, additionally toys with the idea of putting up a front for people when inside, the pressure is slowly starting to break you. Kellin’s screams within the lyrics paired with fantastic instrumental work from members Nick Martin, Tony Pizzuti, Justin Hills, and Matty Best displays both the sadness and frustration that one carries from pressure and how, as the song portrays, can make one feel paralyzed with emotion.

The chorus is the true star of the show in ‘Paralyzed’. As mentioned previously, the chorus contrasts strongly with the heavy verses. ‘Cause all of the pressure is wearing me down // Pulling me under, nowhere to be found // No more excuses, no more of the lies // Just need it to stop before I’m paralyzed, truly shows how just a few lines can mean so much and speak to the right people. They converse of pressure as something that is not only mental, but physical. Something that weighs you down until you feel paralyzed. Maybe this pressure can be a person, as the lyrics I wanna go, but you beg me to stay // I’m getting tired of these games we play, suggests that sometimes, a specific person in our lives can be the culprit to these feelings, and it’s up to us to find a way out.

It’s safe to say that we’re ecstatic about An Ending In Itself and antsy for just how amazing this record is going to be. Sleeping With Sirens is back and better than ever and as Kellin Quinn states: “This is just the beginning.”
