Being In Love can feel Like Strings on a Marionette with In Color's New Song

Our favorite new, steadily-rising band is back with yet another incredible single. ‘Marionette’ released this past Friday after the band spent a number of weeks teasing the single. In Color began teasing ‘Marionette’ with a video posted via their Instagram on August 24th that was captioned “ARRIVAL”. Numerous videos followed with the same caption, “ARRIVAL”, paired with a teaser for the new single to come. Finally on August 28th, In Color invited fans to pre-save ‘Marionette’, but not of course without captioning the post “ARRIVAL” once again. Although, things were shaken up a bit on August 31st. Another teaser video was posted, but this time with the caption “OBSERVATION” rather than the prior. Numerous teasers with the new caption followed. Finally, one last new caption was revealed just six days ago. This time, “THE BODY CONSUMES THE BRAIN”. It’s obvious In Color has something big coming our way.
‘Marionette’ was a collaborative writing and composition effort from Val Hoyt, Miles Laderman, Matthew Hastings, and Holden Clontz, who also produced the new single, alongside Matt Huber and Jack Kenndedy. Just the title alone of this song is an interesting one within itself. ‘Marionette’ refers to a puppet, something being controlled by strings. Someone controlling you. This theme is immediately introduced within the first lyrics; Your body has a brain that goes against your own // I could look up // I could turn a blind eye // Marionette lines taking control. Love can feel like someone is taking control of you, or them perhaps. They’re so intriguing, that it feels like someone is controlling them; maybe it’s too good to be true. You could either “look up” at the strings and see why they may not be good for you, or simply turn a blind eye to it. It can feel easy, yet hard at the same time to leave someone who’s not good for you. They know exactly where to hurt you, what to say and do to hurt you the most; It ain’t hard to walk away // Settle in, but you know I fold // When you’re aiming at me, one eye closed // Like you know where it hurts me most. They’re so bad, it feels like they’re being controlled by strings. It feels like they’re a puppet or marionette of some sort. Yet, they somehow keep drawing you in. Their strings keep pulling you in. You changed, but they never do; Getting old, stayin’ young // And I changed with every step I took.
Every time In Color releases a new song, the lyrics and meaning are nothing short of what can be described as beautiful. In Color finds meaning in the simple things in life, and relates it to love. They often take the words right out of our mouth, or the thoughts right out of your head, and turn it into something beautiful and special. In Color has something big on the way, and we’re here for it. We’re sure it’ll be as amazing as everything else they have released thus far.
You can catch In Color numerous times this year. They are set to perform their headline show September 22nd in San Diego, California, and from September 25th through September 29th. On September 23rd, they will be supporting Jutes for one last date on ‘Smile You’re On Tour’. On October 30th, In Color will be supporting NIGHTLY at the Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville.
